8-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Climb via Lemosho Route

The Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and least crowded routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. The route takes you through a variety of ecosystems, from lush rainforests to the high-altitude alpine desert, all while providing stunning views of the mountain and surrounding landscapes.
Day by Day
Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. Meet your guide for a pre-climb briefing, gear check, and to ensure everything is in order for your trek.
Accommodation: Hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
Meals & Drinks: Dinner (Lunch & breakfast not included).
Day 2: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Drive to Lemosho Gate (2,100 meters) for registration, then begin your trek through the lush rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750 meters). This section offers a serene start to the trek, with diverse plant and animal life.

- Hiking Time: 4-6 hours.
- Distance: 7 km.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira Camp
Hike through the rainforest and into the heath zone, climbing gently toward Shira Camp (3,840 meters). The views of Mount Kilimanjaro become more impressive as you ascend, and the vegetation changes significantly.
- Elevation: 2,750 meters to 3,840 meters.
- Hiking Time: 5-7 hours.
- Distance: 11 km.

Day 4: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
Trek across the Shira Plateau, taking in magnificent views of Kibo Peak. Continue to Lava Tower (4,630 meters) for acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp (3,950 meters). This is an important acclimatization day.
- Elevation: 3,840 meters to 4,630 meters (Lava Tower) to 3,950 meters (Barranco Camp).

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
After breakfast, climb the Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding section of the trek. Continue across the valleys and ridges to Karanga Camp (4,200 meters), where you’ll enjoy stunning views of the surrounding landscapes.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Continue your ascent towards Barafu Camp (4,600 meters), where you will rest before your summit attempt. The views of Kibo Peak and Mawenzi Peak from here are breathtaking. Prepare for the summit attempt with an early dinner and rest.

- Distance: 4 km.

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Begin your summit attempt at midnight, trekking to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters). The climb is strenuous but rewarding, with a spectacular sunrise at the summit. After celebrating, descend back to Mweka Camp (3,100 meters) for rest.
- Elevation: 4,600 meters to 5,895 meters (summit) to 3,100 meters (descent).
- Hiking Time: 8-10 hours to summit; 4-6 hours descent.
- Distance: 16 km.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Descend from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,800 meters), where you will collect your summit certificate. Enjoy a celebration and transfer back to Moshi for a farewell dinner and overnight stay.

- Distance: 10 km.

Day 9: Departure
Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure or continue your adventure with a safari or Zanzibar trip.
