The trail passes through dense rainforest, where rain showers are common. Expect lush vegetation, birds, and towering trees as you gradually ascend to Machame Camp.
Trekking Time: 5–6 hours
Distance: 5 km (3.1 miles)
Acclimatization Advice:
Drink at least 4 liters of water daily.
Walk slowly and maintain a steady pace.
Inform your guide immediately if you feel unwell.
After breakfast, you will leave the rainforest and ascend toward Shira Camp. The vegetation gradually changes to moorland, and for the first time, you will enjoy stunning views of the Shira Plateau.
After lunch and rest at the camp, you will take a short acclimatization hike toward Lava Tower before returning to Shira Camp for dinner.
Main Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
Distance: 5 km (3.1 miles)
Acclimatization Hike:
Elevation gain: from 3,750 m (12,303 ft) to 4,120 m (13,517 ft)
Distance: 2 km (1.2 miles)
Time: 1–2 hours
This is a key acclimatization day. You will trek from Shira Camp to Lava Tower (4,600 m / 15,088 ft), experiencing several ascents and descents. Lunch is served near Lava Tower to allow your body time to adapt to the altitude.
Afterward, you will descend to Barranco Camp, located beneath the impressive Barranco Wall.
Trekking Time: 6–8 hours
Distance: 11 km (6.8 miles)
After an early breakfast, you will climb the Barranco Wall, a fun and non-technical scramble offering fantastic views of Mount Kibo. Once at the top, the route continues with several ascents and descents toward Karanga Camp, where you will stop for lunch.
Later, you will continue to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. The remainder of the day is dedicated to rest and preparation.
Trekking Time: 8–10 hours
Distance: 11 km (6.8 miles)
Around midnight, you will begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). While the trail is not technical, the altitude makes this the most demanding part of the climb. Our guides closely monitor each climber’s condition throughout the ascent.
After reaching the summit and celebrating your achievement, you will descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Millennium Camp.
Trekking Time: 8–12 hours
Distance: 15 km (9.3 miles)
Safety Note:
Extra care is required during descent, as most injuries occur on the way down.
